Thanksgiving Dresses 2010 * Upcycled knits

Here's a look at the sweet little dresses I made for Miss I and Miss V to wear on Thanksgiving-

I love, love, LOVE to refashion! These upcycled dresses were both made using a few of my maternity tops and one of the hubs' old t-shirts. The total cost for both dresses = $0! LOVE that! ;)

{To These!}

I *heart* Miss V's sweet little dress with the funky turkey applique' - perfect for my lil gobbler! ;) I handmade the applique using bits of fabric from my scrap-bin.

For Miss I's dress, I followed Little Blue Boo's Sienna Dress Pattern.
It was my first time using a pattern and was SUPER easy to follow. I think it turned out cute.

Two soft, cozy, completely unique dresses for two sweet little ladies!

P.S. Sorry for the lame hanging-on-the-door-photos...my little models are napping.  Maybe I should ask Santa for a dress form?! ;)

Purchase a Ready To Wear Chemo Cap/Scarf

A few people have written asking where they can buy a cap like the one featured in my chemo cap/headscarf tutorial; so I've decided to make some ready-to-wear caps and sell them directly through my etsy shop.

Currently available: The Pumpkin Blossom-
Made from soft, silky polyester fabric; this scarf drapes beautifully and is comfortable to wear. The “Pumpkin Blossom”  is beautiful! The colors in this scarf are very pretty; featuring a warm cream colored base with rich accents of black, marigold, and orange and touches of pink, gray, violet and green.

For more details please view the Pumpkin Blossom Chemo Cap Listing or

You Made It! Vintage Kimono Silk Chemo Cap

I want to share this lovely chemo cap that Gayle from Uncommon Threads made using my chemo cap - head scarf tutorial
Isn't it beautiful? I love the vintage kimono silk that she chose for the scarf! Gayle made her cap using an existing knit headband; which is a GREAT way to save time when making this style scarf! Thanks for sharing, Gayle! It looks wonderful! :)

Operation Gratitude

Have you ever heard of Operation Gratitude?

I just found out about it this week, and I am SO happy that I did!

Operation Gratitude  seeks to lift morale of deployed US military men and women by sending care packages addressed to individual Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines deployed in harm's way. These special care packages contain food, hygiene products, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation, all wrapped with good wishes of love and support. How awesome is that? I love the idea of sending some love and showing my appreciation to the brave men and women who so selflessly defend and protect our country. I think it is so important to support our troops and to show our military men and women that we respect and appreciate their work.

There are many ways for individuals to get involved with Operation Gratitude - Click HERE for more information!

Currently, Operation Gratitude is collecting Halloween Candy to go in the 60,000 care packages they plan to send to troops this December. Halloween Candy donations are accepted from October 1 to December 15 (but need to be mailed no later than December 3rd) - packages can be mailed to:

Operation Gratitude/California Army National Guard

17330 Victory Boulevard

Van Nuys, California 91406

ATTN: Charlie Othold

Phone: 818.437.6201

As soon as I read about Operation Gratitude, I knew my family had to participate! So, the girlies and I sat down with their Halloween loot and they helped me put it in the big mailing envelope to send to the troops. :) I hope to make this a tradition and each year have the girls send their candy along with letters of appreciation to our troops.  After telling my family about the program, they volunteered all their leftover trick or treaters candy too! :) So now we have a great big package of sweets all ready for the post office. I love thinking about how this very simple act of giving is going to help brighten the day of many brave Americans! Awesome! :)

Operation Gratitude candy donation program is such a great (and easy!) way to support our troops! I encourage you to make a donation too! :) For more information, please visit the Operation Gratitude official website http://www.opgratitude.com/

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

September to January is my FAVORITE time of year! I L-O-V-E the fall and all of it's harvesty/pumpkiny goodness; but more than anything, I treasure the excitement that rolls around on November 1st and lingers into the New Year. Christmas carols, glittery decorations, big family meals = pure JOY! I just love the holidays! Like all the loves of my life, I like my holiday celebrations to be extra special! ;)  My beloved family has long ago accepted my infatuation with making every holiday season the very best one yet; and while they secretly refer to me as Clark Griswald (whom I heart!) they LOVE my devotion to holiday traditions and look forward to my "Family Holiday Calendar of Events" each November! ;)

One of the many traditions I LOVE about the holidays is sending and receiving Christmas Cards. There is something SO fun about choosing the perfect card and sending if off to your friends and family. I know that I can easily email/facebook/blog pics of my girls and holiday greetings to countless people; but I just love the old school practice of selecting a card, filling out an envelope, and dropping off a big ol' pile of holiday fun at the post office! :) {...for those of you who know me in real life, I love to receive cards too - wink wink!}

Want to know something awesome? The super talented people over at Shutterfly make it ridiculously easy to design and send AMAZING personalized holiday cards in the same about of time (or less) than it would take you to send an email. Seriously! Shutterfly offers a HUGE assortment of holiday cards, stationary and invitations.
The hardest part will be selecting your favorite!

{Here's a peek at some of my favs!}

Christmas Carol Lyrics + Bright Christmas Colors = LOVE

I adore this sweet card!

This fun collage card would be perfect for my family!
It is almost impossible to get a good picture of my kids together - this way, I wouldn't have too!

This trendy card will stand out in the crowd!

Why not beat the holiday rush and send a Thanksgiving card?
I love this sweet card!

Another fun idea - send New Years Cards!
I would LOVE to receive this one!

Shutterfly also has a great selection of invitations and Thank You Cards!

I have ordered cards, prints and gifts from Shutterfly before and have been really pleased with the quality. The Shutterfly website is easy to use and is packed with great ideas for personalized holiday gifts! One of my favorite gifts to give are Shutterfly photo books. I really like these personalized wall calendars too!

Pour yourself a mug of hot cocoa, put on some Christmas Carols and head on over to Shutterfly! Once you get a look at all the holiday goodness they are selling, you'll be glad that you did!

I'll be back later this week with some new products for the Shop :)
