Embellished Baby Burp Cloths

Last fall, Ashley at Lil Blue Boo announced that
Lil Blue Boo and Dharma Trading Company were sponsoring
a design challenge. I've never participated in a contest like
this before; but I enjoy following such contests and I heart
both Lil Blue Boo and Dharma Trading - so I thought it
would be fun to challenge myself to come up with an entry!
I thought about the contest on and off for a while.
Debating between trying something completely new-to-me
and doing what I know. In the end, I did both. :)

The design challenge was to create something using at least
one of the featured techniques (you can read the full list, here)

The project I submitted was this extra-special set of
embellished burp cloths, "Peace, Love, Baby"
Aren't they sweet?
Made from high quality pre-fold cloth diapers, these
cloths are perfect for using as burp cloths or as a
changing pad when you're out and about and need
a clean (and rad) place to lay the baby! ;)

The first cloth is embellished with an extra thick layer
of soft flannel in a fun print that I think complimented
the "Peace, Love, Baby" theme perfectly, and two
super sweet rows of bright white ribbon ruffles. :)
The second cloth was designed with curious babies in mind!
My girlies LOVED to explore their taggie toys & blankets
when they were babies; so I created this cloth with a
row of brightly colored ribbon in various textures and
fresh prints! I topped it off by sewing an extra thick,
bright yellow dotted ribbon across each end of the
cloth. I just love the way it turned out! :)
For the last cloth I tried a technique I had NO
experience with; fabric dying! I wanted the third cloth
in the set to be simple, but still have a fun, modern style.
I chose to dye the cloth sunshine yellow and then added
the bright pink ruffle along the edge. I think it looks awesome!
 {BTW, fabric dying = WAY fun! You can expect to see me using this technique again, for sure!}
I am really excited about this set! I love the bright colors
and fun prints - I think that they are modern and girly
without being pink on pink! ;)

Here is the collage that I submitted to the contest -

So fun! Wish me luck! :)

*Updated*
:) Ya'll are too sweet! I've received a few inquiries about
purchasing this set, so I want to let everyone know, yes,
I will be adding more embellished burp cloth sets to the shop
starting next week. But, no, this particular set is ooak
for my new baby niece. THANKS for all the l-o-v-e! ;)
I'm linking up to these awesome parties!

Let's get to work and send some crafty-mumma-goodness
to the sweet children of Japan! :)

Sew Along for Japan

Since hearing of the tragedy in Japan, I have been looking for a
way that I can help. The losses that the people of Japan are facing
are more than any one of us can repair on our own; but I truly
believe that every little act of kindness and compassion does make
a difference. I am brought to tears when I try to imagine what
I would do if I woke up tomorrow and my whole world changed.
As a mother, my heart goes out to all of the mothers affected by
this tragedy who are heroically caring for their children during this
turmoil. I can't even imagine what this devastating situation is like
from the perspective of the sweet, innocent children of Japan.

Yesterday, I came across this post on Living With Punks -
Susan has organized a Sew-Along next week March 28 - April 1
to give everyone an opportunity to come together and create
for the children of Japan.

What are we making?
THIS beautiful shirt, designed by Chelsea of Pink Fig Designs.

{source Pink Fig Designs}
Chelsea shared on her blog, that like many of us, she watched the videos streaming in from Japan and wanted to help. As a
mother she thought of what might lift the spirits of her kids if
her family were in such a situation, and she designed this
sweet shirt. She calls it "Chloe and Mieko" here's why,

"...Chloe means blooming and Mieko means beautiful blessed child of God. The two together are a representation of the worlds love for Japan and their bright future ahead. It will bloom again and there is hope and light for them because God loves them and we love them. I want them to know that, so I designed this shirt to send to them. "

Chelsea was kind enough to create a tutorial and pattern
so that everyone can make a shirt (or many shirts!) - she will
be collecting the shirts through May and then shipping them,
as well as handmade dolls, to the sweet children of Japan.

I LOVE this idea! LOVE. LOVE.LOVE!
Think of how special your kids feel when you give them
something handmade! Let's all work together to let the
families of Japan know we are thinking of them, and praying
for them, and that we care about them!

Starting on Monday and going through the week, Living With Punks
is going to be posting a daily tutorial on each step of creating this
darling shirt (there will be a boy version too). Please sew along!

The Buzz about Daydream Believers Tutus!

There is something so sweet about a little girl in a big ol' tutu! :)
My own daughters love to wear tutus; for special occasions,
for dress up play, and for everyday attire! We get the occasional
odd glare when we're out grocery shopping and Miss I* is
rockin' a major tutu... but most of the time we get swarmed with
"oohs" "ahs" and rounds of applause.  OK, maybe not rounds
of applause, but they do get LOTS of compliments and my
favorite question "where did you get that outfit?" ;) I love that *I*
is now old enough to reply "my mumma made it!" :)
Seriously, there is nothing sweeter!
I think every little girl should have at least one tutu in her closet,
so I offer five different styles in the Daydream Believer Shop!

The Ballerina,
The Prima Ballerina,
The Queen Bee
The Daydream Believer
The Bowie

You can get the buzz on all five styles by visiting the

Custom Baby Shower Gifts

Here's a peek at a special baby shower gift I just completed.
This set was a custom order and I just love how it turned out!
The burp cloths were embellished to coordinate with
the little guy's nursery- so cute!
I just LOVE personal, unique baby gifts! :)
Rounding out the gift is this too-cute-for-words tie onesie -
Oh, how I love the tie onesie! Is there anything cuter than
a little baby boy rockin' a tie?! ;) I especially love that
this tie pays tribute to my Alma mater! GO BLUE! :)
This was such a fun order for me to work on!
Thanks, Tiffany, for choosing Daydream Believers!
I hope your friend loves her extra-special gift, although,
I'm sure she will! :)

To infinity and beyond!

This last week at Daydream Believers has been all about the

Buzz Lightyear inspired! :) So fun!
This B.L. shirt is for one of my favorite little guys, Jaiden;
