Custom Design Spots NOW AVAILABLE

I *love* custom design projects! I started Daydream Believers with the goal of creating the unique, fabulous items that moms want for their kids. In order to give every piece I make my fullest attention, I have to limit the number of “custom orders” I take on each month. Because I have the BEST customers, I’ve opened up FOUR additional Custom Design Spots (for June and July!) Yay! This is just my way of saying THANKS for following along!

This is your chance to commission a one-of-a-kind outfit for your kiddo! :)

These spots typically fill up months in advance, so to make things as fair as possible –
I’m listing all available custom design spots in the Big Cartel shop.

--{Wondering how these design spots work? Here’s the process}--

Step 1: RESERVE YOUR SPOT -
Purchasing this listing will reserve your custom design spot. This deposit will be deducted from the final cost of your order. Once the spot has been reserved, what we do with it is essentially up to you! I’m here to design something extra special and one of a kind especially for your little love!

Past customers have used their custom spots to order – birthday outfits, baby shower gift sets, school spirit tutus, OOAK holiday apparel, first day of school outfits, special outfits for photos, custom apparel for vacation, pageant wear, flower girl apparel, custom sports-team tees, decorations for parties…(See more examples in the Gallery!)

Step 2: DESIGN CONSULTATION –
(6 weeks before ship date)
We’ll communicate, via email, to establish what you would like me to create. Once I know what you’re looking for, I will put together a custom design board for you outlining style options, fabric choices, and price quotes.

Step 3: DESIGN APPROVAL –
(Due 4 wks prior to ship date)
You make your final design choices :) Then I will write up a custom listing for you to purchase directly through the Daydream Believers Shop.

Step 4: FINAL PAYMENT-
(Due 3 wks prior to ship date)
Once purchase is made and payment is finalized I will create your custom piece(s)!

Step 5: ORDER SHIPS
Order will within 3 weeks of final payment (usually sooner!) unless other arrangements are made between customer and designer.

It’s that easy! :)

If you’re looking for something extra special for your little one, reserve your custom design spot today!

---

Please note, at this time, I do not foresee any additional custom spots becoming available for the remainder of 2012. This may be your last chance to secure a custom design spot this year! Don’t miss out!  {Reserve Here}

Tutorial: Learn to make the EASIEST Earrings Ever!

Welcome to the final day of the Handcrafted Easter Event here at Daydream Believers! :)
Easter is just days away, but don’t fret my friends, there is still time to create some very sweet jewelry that your little queen bee is sure to love! These dainty flower bud earrings will make a sweet addition to any girls Easter Basket! They are SO easy to make, I almost didn’t even write this tutorial; but, just incase you were wondering how to make those super popular cabochon earrings that are all over the stores – here’s the scoop!

Supplies:
Resin cabochons  (I used 10 mm)
Earring Posts and Ear Knuts (I used 6mm, silver plated posts)
Adhesive – (E-6000 is my fav for jewelry/beads/embellishments)

(These supplies are readily available at your local craft store, but I purchased my resins, earring posts, and earring backs from Snapcrafty  – This is a great shop to work with! Their prices and selection are excellent! Plus, Snapcrafty is based in Michigan! YEA for MI businesses!)

Instructions:

Step 1: Put a small dab of adhesive on the back of the resin
Step 2: Add the earring post to the back of the resin and set aside until the glue sets. Repeat for each earring.

Seriously ya’ll, that’s it!

Make them Easter-Basket-Ready by cutting a 2 inch flower shape from cardstock paper (you can use scissors or a craft punch – I used a 2” scallop punch). Using a tiny hole punch (or a sharp nail) add two holes to the center of the flower shape. Insert earrings, securing them in the back with the ear knuts. Place in a pretty plastic egg, and voila! A sweet, handcrafted gift for your little lady (or your sister/mother/best friend… queen bees of all ages love jewelry!)

If you make any earrings using this tutorial I would LOVE to see! Please share a picture on the Daydream Believers Facebook Page for your chance to win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Daydream Believers shop! :)

Tutorial: Felt Flower Pin

Welcome back to the Handcrafted Easter Event here at Daydream Believers! :)

You are going to LOVE today’s tutorial! I’m going to teach you my favorite way to make a fun, felt flower pin. I know there are a lot of ways to make felt flowers; this one is my favorite! The flowers are easy to assemble and made with supplies you probably have on hand in your craft-stash. You can finish the flowers off in back with a silver bar pin, an alligator clip, or my fav a combination bar pin/clip; so you and your little loves can wear these flowers pinned to a shirt, jacket, dress, scarf, clipped to a purse, headband, necklace, or right into your hair! Gotta’ love that!

You can easily customize these flowers (making them more dressy or more funky) depending on the color combination you select.

Supplies:
Felt (we will be cutting 1.5” x 12” strips… so 9’”x12” craft felt sheets work perfectly!) Choose 3 colors plus green for leaves.
Glue Gun
Scissors
Pin/Clip for the back

Prep Work:
1.) Cut felt into a 1.5”x12” strip. You will need to cut one strip from each color felt. (3 strips total)
2.) From your green felt, cut out 3 little leaves. I cut my football-shaped leaves to be 1 inch long.
3.) Cut a 2-3 inch circle of felt - this will be the base of of you pin.

Instructions:
Step 1: Cut slits into each felt strip. Slits should be 1 inch long. Try to keep the width consistent.
Step 2: With your glue gun in hand, tightly roll your felt strip from left to right, gluing along the bottom as you roll.
Step 3: Fan out your “petals” – Yea! You’ve made a felt flower! See, totally easy! Repeat steps 1-3 for each flower.

Step 4: Add a tiny dab of glue to the bottom center of each leaf and pinch to roll. Set aside.
Step 5: Using a generous amount of glue, attach all 3 flowers and all 3 leaves to your circle base.
Step 6: Hot glue one side of your pin/clip to the circle base and enjoy your pretty new pin!

Note: If you are using an alligator clip instead of a pin/clip, you will want to cut an additional strip of felt, the length of the circle base, and hot glue it in between the alligator clamps to secure the clip to the base.

If you make a felt flower using this tutorial I would LOVE to see! Please share a picture on the Daydream Believers Facebook Page for your chance to win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Daydream Believers shop! :)

Be sure to stop back by tomorrow for the final day of the Handcrafted Easter Event! I’m showing you how to make the easiest earrings ever! Here’s a peek…

Tutorial: Felt Pinwheel Hair Clip

Welcome back to the Handcrafted Easter Event here at Daydream Believers! :)
If you are just joining in, click here to learn to make chunky beaded necklaces, and here for the ribbon wand tutorial!
**

When putting together a gift for a little girl, hair accessories are always a GREAT choice! A girl can never have too many! These sweet pinwheels are perfect for Spring! They are so darling; I think you’ll be surprised just how EASY they are to make! {Seriously, 5 simple steps, that’s all!} Did I mention they cost less than $1 to make?

Here we go…

Supplies:

Two 3x3 squares of felt (Each pinwheel uses two different colors—I purchased 9x12 sheets of craft felt for .25 at HobLob)
Hand sewing supplies (Needle, Thread, Scissors)
1 Button
1 blank hair clip
Hot glue gun

Instructions:
Step 1: Starting at each corner, cut 1.5” slit towards the center of each 3x3 felt square. Stack your felt pieces – the color on the top of the stack will become the interior color and the piece on the bottom will be the exterior color.

Step 2: With your hand sewing needle threaded, push the needle through the bottom center of your stack and up through each folded corner. (*Every other corner will be folded)

Step 3: Once all four corners are secured, sew the button on to the top center of your pinwheel.

Step 4: Using your hot glue gun, attach the pinwheel onto your hair clip and voila’, that’s it mumma! :)

*  If you want to make this easy project even easier, you can totally skip the sewing all together and just hot glue that whole thing! It will still look just as cute and you will save yourself a little time. I won’t tell! ;)

Go on friends, get craftin’! These little lovelies will be SO sweet in your little queen bees’ Easter Basket!
If you make one (or a dozen, bc seriously, these are addicting!) I’d LOVE to see! Please share a picture on the Daydream Believers Facebook Page! Every picture you share earns you a chance to win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Daydream Believers shop! :)

Be sure to stop back by tomorrow when the Handcrafted Easter Event continues! Tomorrow I’ll show you how to make this sweet felt flower pin!

Tutorial: DIY Ribbon Wand

Welcome back to the Handcrafted Easter Event here at Daydream Believers! :)
If you missed yesterday’s project, just click here to learn how to make a chunky beaded necklace!
**
As you may know, I am the proud mumma of two very funny, very loving, very GIRLY little girls!
My little loves are 2 and 4 and the world is their playground! My hubs and I  try to surround our girls with JOY – we believe that life (especially childhood) should be enjoyed, not rushed through. Our house is filled with lots of music, lots of dancing and LOTS of laughter.  These easy-little ribbon wands add a touch of magic to our dance parties… my little queen bees love swirling them, dancing through them, and spinning as fast as they can while waving them!

These wands can be customized in SO many ways to best suit your little love!
Change up the colors, paint the base, vary the ribbon lengths… there are MANY options.

Here are the basics for making a DIY Ribbon Wand:

Supplies:
Wooden dowel rod (size 5/16” x 12”)
Screw eye
Split key ring
2 pieces of 1.5” wide ribbon, cut 5-6 feet long.
2 pieces of 1” wide ribbon, cut 5-6 feet long.
Sewing supplies (or glue) for securing ribbon (see step #2 for details)

(Optional… you may use ribbon (1/2 inch) or acrylic paint to cover your wooden dowel)

Prep Work:Cut all four ribbon pieces to be 5-6 feet long, finishing all ribbon edges by applying fray check or heat sealing with a lighter, to keep the ribbon from unraveling.

Instructions:
1.) Twist the screw eye into the top of the wooden dowel rod – twisting the screw eye all the way to the base.

2.) Layer one 1”in piece of ribbon over one 1.5” piece of ribbon – loop these two pieces through the key ring – sew to secure. I sew my pieces with a tight, straight, machine stitch – you could also hand sew or hot glue to secure. Repeat this step with the two remaining pieces of ribbon.
{Note: I used yellow contrasting thread for the purpose of this tutorial…when making these for gifts, you will want to use matching thread}

3.) Link the key ring to the split eye and you ribbon-dancer-wand is ready to GO!

If you make a ribbon wand using this tutorial I would LOVE to see! Please share a picture on the Daydream Believers Facebook Page for your chance to win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Daydream Believers shop! :)
