On my heart today

If you really knew me....

You would know that this picture of my girls makes me smile every time I see it.

You would know that my heart has been SO heavy since hearing about the tragedy in Colorado.

You would know that I have been so saddened by the horror of that incident, that thinking about it leaves me breathless and in tears.

You would know I that I have a tender heart, and that sometimes, that softness is more of a burden than a blessing.

If you knew me, you’d know that I keep imagining Craig and I in that theater, and wondering what would we have done.

If you really knew me, you'd know that I love life.

You would know that Craig and our girls are my world.

If you really knew me, you’d know that I believe that life should be enjoyed, not rushed through.

You would know that our house is filled with lots of music, lots of dancing, lots of cuddles and LOTS of laughter.

You would know that hubs and I try to surround our girls with JOY, while teaching them about compassion.

You would know that I will always choose spending time with my family over doing work.

If you knew me, you would know that this weekend I cancelled all plans and spent the day at the beach with my family… and that I LOVED it.

That I only cooked dinner once this week, and yesterday, we ate giant cupcakes for dessert.

That I just had a glorious afternoon nap with my girlies, and that watching them sleep, holding hands, snuggled up to me; they were so beautiful, I cried.

You’d know that I am yearning for a way to bring peace to people in pain.

You’d know that I’m contemplating sending off all the dresses that I have prepared for the next upload to random customers, just to brighten their day.

You’d know that I am praying for you.

What is on your heart today?

Christy’s Legacy of Hope, 2nd Annual Fundraiser

I recently had the privilege of creating seven, one of a kind dresses for Christy's Legacy of Hope!
daydream believers dresses benefiting christys legacy of hope
These comfy, knit dresses will be available for purchase at the upcoming Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser! :)

The fundraiser will take place this Monday & Tuesday (July 16 – 17, 2012) at Texas Roadhouse, Taylor.
Christy’s Legacy of Hope has planned a GREAT event! Our Taylor Texas Roadhouse is the best, so you know the food is going to be delish! :)  In addition, there is going to be a *fantastic* bake sale, LOTS of great Christy’s Legacy of Hope merchandise, and a baby blanket auction {Nearly 40 handmade blankets have been donated! I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek, and take my word, they are LOVELY!}  So fun! :) All funds raised by Christy’s Legacy of Hope go towards improving the care of orphaned children around the world.

You can read more about Christy’s Legacy of Hope, and why this wonderful organization is so dear to my heart, here

Some details about the dresses…
There are *only* seven! Each one was created, by me, exclusively for this event.

For this event, I decided to make sleeveless “Bea” dresses. This style is one of my absolute FAVORITES!
For each “Bea”- an artful collaboration of comfy knits & tees come together to create a truly one of a kind dress -
This style is so comfortable and easy to wear; my girls live in Bea dresses!
Starting with beautiful, blue, Christy’s Legacy of Hope tees; many of the dresses feature handcrafted ruffle embellishments and/or super soft, organic knits. Each one is unique – just like the sweet girls who will wear them!
Here’s a peek at the seven dresses that will be available for purchase at the event…

Handmade Fourth of July

I hope everyone had a great day yesterday; we sure did!

My little ladies proudly rocked their handmade-by-mumma red, white & blues in celebration of Independence Day!
Daydream Believers all started from my desire to create for my girls; here’s a look at what they wore this 4th of July:

classic american style gingham red and white

Best Friends are my Favorite!

For Iyla, I made a fully lined, high waisted skirt and tie back halter top. Resin Earrings and a gingham head wrap.
Miss Viv is wearing coordinating gingham sundress from the Hope Collection, a head wrap & sweet felt star clippies.

Handmade Gift Exchange Reveal

It’s Handmade Gift Exchange time again, Yay!
I just love the whole concept of the Handmade Gift Exchange!

This time around, Linda (the Rad Mumma behind Craftaholics Anonymous and the host of the HGE) changed up the Handmade Gift Exchange format just a bit; instead of being paired up with one partner – everyone met two new crafty friends: one who we sent a gift to, and another who sent a gift to us. It was great!
handmade-gift-exchange-june-12

For this round of the HGE, my “giftee” was Samantha, from I Enjoy Stuff. It was so nice to meet her!
Shortly after the partners were drawn, Sam sent me an email telling me a little about herself (SO helpful!)
In her message, she mentioned that she like chevron patterns and the color chartreuse. I immediately googled “chartreuse chevron fabric”) and was THRILLED to find an awesome print that I thought would be perfect! After browsing her blog, and noticing that this fab lady really does enjoy stuff :) I decided to make her a few small gifts instead of one large piece.

A multi-purpose brush roll

A shabby key chain

and a Business/Loyalty Card wallet

I designed the brush roll with different size pockets, so it can easily fit various make up brushes OR art supplies

The shabby key chain is a simple piece, but a fun way to show off a fab fabric, like the chartreuse chevron!
The business/loyalty card wallet was a “make it up as I go” project – I think it turned out well. It’s another easy piece that really showcases the fun fabrics (plus, everyone needs a stylish way to carry business cards, right? :)

{Quick Question: Any interest in tutorials for any of these gifts? Leave me a note in the comments! Thanks!}

This lovely set of personalized note cards! Aren’t they beautiful?

My partner was the very talented Lorisa of Over The Rivers. Lorisa’s craftsmanship is top notch, and the colors/embellishments she chose are just my style. THANKS Lorisa!

But wait!
The Handmade Gift Exchange fun isn’t over yet!
There is a great linky-party happening now at  Craftaholics Anonymous  where everyone can share the gifts they made/received and check out the fun gifts that all the other participants exchanged too!  {It’s GREAT!}
I encourage you to head on over and check out all the handcrafted loveliness! {Here’s The Link!}

BIG Thanks to Linda at  Craftaholics Anonymous  for organizing this event! :) THANKS friend!

Happy Anniversary, Daydream Believers! A look at our future!

July 1st has become a special day for me.
It was on July 1st, 2010 that I published my first blog post and started this unbelievable adventure!
Coincidentally, my most popular post ever {THIS little tutorial} was written on July 1st, 2011!

One year later, here we are, Lucky July 1, 2012! When I look back at those first projects and early posts, it’s exciting to see how far my little blog has come! It’s a great reflection of how much I’ve grown as a designer, and how Daydream Believers has grown into SO much more than I ever imagined it would be!

When I started Daydream Believers, I didn’t really have a plan.
I knew that I enjoyed designing and creating for my girls.
I loved the idea of giving other moms the opportunity to have special outfits handcrafted for their little ones.
I never knew it would come so far, SO quickly; or that it would change my life.
I never planned for this hobby-that-I-love to transform into a full fledged career.

I am grateful EVERY DAY that I let God make the plans for my life! I just try my best to follow his lead.

I LOVE what I do!
I LOVE spending my days designing and creating for your special kids, while staying at home, taking care of mine.
While I never imagined that this would be my career; I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Thankfully, God continues to lead me on a path of growing this little dream of mine.

Over the last few months, my blog posts have been less frequent as I have been actively contemplating the future of Daydream Believers. You see, late last year I was approached by a very well known online marketplace about partnering with them and selling Daydream Believers’ lovelies on a large scale level.
We’re talking thousands of pieces, being sold internationally, though a prominent store.
Seriously!
It’s amazingly cool! I know!

Once I got over the shock of the offer, I was overcome with emotions/thoughts/questions/fears/ideas…
It was the first time since I started Daydream Believers that it really hit me; I have something special here, I need to figure out what in the world I’m going to do with it! :)

So, I’ve spent the last few months seriously contemplating my options. Praying constantly for the knowledge, clarity and faith necessary to make the best decision. Thinking not only about myself and my family, but for the hundreds of fabulous friends that have supported Daydream Believers and made this “job” SO WONDERFUL!

Do I? Should I? What if?  Do I want to take Daydream Believers to the mainstream level?
Am I ready to hire manufacturers to produce my designs in large quantities?
Do I want turn D.B.Designs into a FULL TIME business – and if I do, should I keep it online?
Do I want to open a brick and mortar store? Do I want to offer trunk shows?
Do I? Should I? What if?

These are just a few of the MANY questions that I have contemplated over the last six months.
The idea of growing my little dream into something SO major is overwhelming, excited, humbling.
I knew that I needed to make some decisions, So back in April, I set a deadline for myself, July 1st;
by Lucky July 1st, I needed to make a decision about the future of Daydream Believers.

Let me tell ya, July 1st came quickly!  ;)

So...
As of today, I am still unsure of the future. I still don’t have a long term business plan.
I really don’t know where Daydream Believers will go or what path I will take.
I know for certain that I LOVE designing children’s clothing.
I feel like God gives us all a natural talent and when we are lucky enough to recognize our gift, it is our responsibility to use it. Thankfully, this is my gift. I love it. I treasure it. I will happily continue to grow it.

For the time being, I have declined the partnership. I’m not saying never, just not right now.

I will continue to explore my options for expanding my company, but for right now,
I want to focus on what makes
Daydream Believers so special; unique, handcrafted pieces.

One (big) change I am implementing is, instead of releasing big collections twice a year, I will focus on creating more OOAKs to be released each month (YAY for more uploads!) I will continue to offer custom design spots and have some plans for future sale opportunities that I think y’all will LOVE!

It has been a whirlwind two years and I am SO excited about the future of D.B.D!

Happy Lucky July 1st, my friends!
THANK YOU for being awesome!
xx M.

PS – This may be the longest post ever - I'm Sorry! THANKS for reading! Check back on Tuesday for a SWEET deal and some deets about the upcoming SALE! :)
