I am so excited to tell you that, ALL of the pieces were matched with a recipient! YEA!

The response this event was everything I had hoped it would be! I really do have THE BEST fans and friends!

I plan to continue growing the Daydream Believer Project by organizing events like “Spread a Little LOVE” and supporting other fabulous charitable events going on in the blogosphere! ;) THANKS for all the support!

EASY and delish 3 step chili recipe

Happy Monday my friends!
It is C-O-L-D in the Mitten today; the perfect weather for making a big pot of piping hot chili!

Yum!
Since ya’ll can’t stop by to enjoy a bowl; I’m sharing my recipe with you so you can whip up a batch of your own. This chili is SO easy to make and is absolutely DELISH – you’re going to love it!

This recipe is perfect for tailgating too! The chili can be prepared ahead of time, then heated in a slow-cooker on low, until it is nice and hot. Bring a batch along to your Superbowl party - it will be a hit! :)

Yesterday was a very exciting day! My girls and I watched as the Daydream Believers’ Facebook Page hit
1,000 FANS!

So cool!

There was a lot of happy dancin’ at our house yesterday! :) It is so exciting to watch this little dream grow.
A highlight was when Miss I* told me; “Mom, this is awesome! I’ve never had 1,000 fans before” hahaha :)

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! It really means SO much to have you following along!
Last February, when I started the FB page, I was hesitant. I’ve never been an active personal Facebooker – and I just wasn’t sure how the DB-Facebook page would work. I have been pleasantly surprised by how FUN the DB-Facebook page is! :) I love being able to connect with you throughout the day and LOVE seeing all the photos that ya’ll share of your littles rockin’ their Daydream Believers wear. Love, Love, Love!

My littlest is a glamour girl!
She loves to dress up fancy for every occasion and is rarely without a big bow and purse full of jewels
V* really is the sweetest little lady!
I designed this ultra-glam tutu in her honor!

Four tiers of ruffles handcrafted from ultra soft, fluffy tulle.
The best part? It is completely lined for full playground modesty! ;)

I recently made this custom “Thomas the Train” inspired birthday skirt for a sweet little lady, Sophie
(Her mom is Aurie of “Our Good Life”) Isn’t it fun?

The great fabric combination was chosen to coordinate with a personalized Thomas the Train tee that Sophie has. Like her little sister’s Abby Cadabby Birthday Skirt; Sophie’s special birthday skirt can easily be incorporated into her everyday wardrobe!

Happy Monday my friends!
After a lot of reflection, I’ve decided to change things up a bit!
Don’t worry, it’s all good, I promise! ;)

Quite simply, I want to do more.
I want 2012 to be filled with more charity, more selflessness and more random acts of kindness.
I want to focus more on DOING and a little less on business.
The Daydream Believer Project is so important to me; I know that God has given me the strength and abilities I need to perform awe-inspiring deeds – I look forward to working with YOU to change the world!

SO…
To kick off this beautiful new year – I’ve decided not to sell the “Birds of a Feather” Valentines Collection.
Instead – We’re all going to Spread A Little LOVE!

I have 10 pieces, one of each size starting at 6/12 months and going up to 7/8.
A few of the pieces are clearly "Valentines" - but the majority can be worn after v-day too!
I love 'em all – and I want to GIVE THEM to deserving girls!

Yep, I am giving them away.

Handmade Gift Exchange

I am a longtime follower (and Big Fan) of Craftaholics Anonymous – so this year I decided to join in on Linda’s 5th Handmade Gift Exchange! I just love the whole concept of the Handmade Gift Exchange!
I enjoyed “meeting” my partner, Kari, and creating something special for her!

I made Kari this fun, ruffle shopping tote and filled it with some Christmas shopping essentials; holiday shopping pad, gingerbread cookie pen, and snowman hand sanitizer! ;)

I was thrilled when I received the awesome gift she created for me! :)
This lovely set of burlap pillow covers, which read “Comfort & joy” – Seriously, aren’t they awesome?

Tonight starts the week long series of One of A Kind Holiday outfits in the shop!

Our kids are each one of a kind, so their clothes should be too, right? ;)
Today I am offering this fun little skirt -

This “Honey Bee” style skirt is made from a classic red on white damask print fabric and will look great paired with a plain white top or a fun holiday print tee! The Honey Bee is such a fun style! Featuring three tiers of extra ruffly ruffles – your little lady will feel extra fancy in this sweet skirt! I topped this original design with a fun, 4 inch, red and white bow. :)

I totally agree with Buddy! ;) But, another GREAT way to spread Christmas Cheer is to send Holiday cards! There is something so special about sending and receiving Christmas Cards. I love choosing the perfect card and sending if off to my family and friends!

I am so lucky that so many other bloggy-mummas feel the same way!

I recently had the privilege of designing this custom “Abby Cadabby” inspired birthday skirt for a sweet lady and fellow blogger, Aurie of “Our Good Life”

Featuring polka dots, ric rac, ruffles and tulle – this is one FUN skirt!
Perfect for twirling! :)

The fun fabric combination was inspired by Abby, but unlike traditional “character clothes” – this little skirt can easily be incorporated into Bella’s everyday wardrobe!

Miss I* is insisting that I make her an apple tree with
”LOTS of leaves, a big trunk, and glittery red apples”
That girl has such a big imagination!

Little Miss V* changed her mind a few times before settling on being the
"Girl- Big Bad Wolf" {yep, I’m going to be Little Red, and she has recruited our
dog, Roxy, to be “Grandma”… it’s going to be awesome!} ;)
Gotta love creative kids! :)

Combined with taking care of my family, fulfilling custom design orders, and writing this little blog; my days are joyfully filled with things to do!

Welcome back friends! I am SO excited about The Daydream Believer Project!

The first organization I’d like us to lend our support to is the Alzheimer’s Association.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease. Later this month, my family and I are participating in the 2011 Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The event raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support.

Writing this blog is such a blessing to me.
It is not only a creative outlet and a fun way to promote my business; but through the blog I have met some fantastic people and had many opportunities to donate to worthwhile charities.

As I wrote in this post I am an eternal optimist who genuinely believes
we all have the ability change the world.
I know there are people out there who think this is naive, but I stand by the belief that EVERYONE can make a difference!
Wanting to change the world is fantastic.
Believing that you can make a positive impact on society is not naïve;
it is honorable and awesome!

The Daydream Believer Project is a new series here on the blog where I will,

Host auctions and special sales – with proceeds benefiting a particular charity or organization.
Organize collections for worthwhile causes that you can help from home
Lead local craft events to create projects that will benefit those in need

I have some BIG ideas and I am SO excited to share them all with you. I know that God has given me the strength and abilities I need to perform awe-inspiring deeds; and I am looking forward to working with all of you to better the world! :)

There are so many wonderful, worthwhile charities and organizations that can use our support. It is my hope to help six charities each year; focusing on just one project at a time. Plans to lend support to our first organization, the Alzheimer’s Association, are already underway! Details coming soon! :)

I am a busy bee today, sewing non stop for the relaunch of
The Daydream Believer Shop at Etsy
Thankfully, I have the cutest lil’ shop assistants in town helping me out!

I am SO excited about the new pieces I am working on for Fall. The dresses, skirts, and tops are all classic, vintage inspired styles made from fun, modern fabrics.
The color scheme for the collection is goldenrod/coffee brown/cranberry with touches of honeysuckle pink. The pieces will feature lots of ruffle accents made from tea-dyed muslin and sweet crochet lace trims. I am really excited about it! :)

Crafty Mumma Show & Tell

Happy Monday! :) How was your weekend? Ours was pretty crazy! We knew it was going to be a busy one, graduation party, bridal shower, volunteering at a community clean up project, sewing time, a family dinner… just a normal busy weekend.
We did not anticipate a random plumbing problem destroying our bathroom.
There was water everywhere.
Floors ruined.
Moulding ruined.
Bath toys, towels, and our spare tp stash, ruined.
So NOT Cool!
Once the plumbing issue was fixed, Hubs and I (with both girls) found ourselves navigating our way through Lowes late on Saturday night deciding on new floors. We decided that night, that since we had to change the floors, we might as well change the paint, and the trim, and the vanity mirror…you can see where this is going! So our weekend plans quickly changed; the bridal shower was missed, the family dinner postponed, and no sewing was done. As I write this, our bathroom is completely torn apart and receiving a full makeover (which, I admit, is kinda fun… I just wish it wasn’t inspired by the great flash-flood of 2011) ;) Oh well, what can you do?

I had hoped to have some Fall 2011 previews to show you, but alas, no photos were edited this weekend either (sorry ya’ll!) – But, here’s a peek at some of the projects that have left my studio recently! :)

I do believe my favorite custom this month was Ella's Birthday Outfit :) SO fun!

One too-small onesie {purchased for a quarter from a mom-2-mom sale}
+ some rad black and white fabric {gifted to me from a friend}
= one adorable little playdress!
Can't beat a .25 cent dress! :)

My crafty-to-do-list is SO full! We hope to have our little remodeling project done today so I can be back to sewing for Fall, tomorrow! Yea! :)

I'm a {designer} ?

I'm sure ya'll read LMM, Ashley is awesome.

She is honest, funny and cute as a button; her blog is one I check daily.

Recently, she wrote that she has a hard time calling herself a writer.

I thought this was so interesting because

1. girlfriend is totally a rad writer and I would absolutely describe her as one!

2. umm... I have the same issue!

Well, sort of the same issue.

My issue is with describing myself as a designer.

There it is.

Scary.

I don't understand why I have such a hard time owning it.

When I was teaching, I had no problem describing myself as a teacher.
When I was coaching, it was never an issue to describe myself as a coach.

Yet, I feel so self conscious about describing myself as a designer. It's weird. I know.

I LOVE designing clothes! L-O-V-E Love It!

I love everything about the creative process! I am SO proud to make clothes for my

kids and my fantastic clients! I feel SO blessed to be a part of the Etsy community

and this fab crafty-mumma-bloggin' world! It is a dream come true to be able to

stay at home with my sweet girls and to do what I love.

But,

I left the "mother's occupation" box blank on all of Miss I*s preschool applications.

It's lame. I know. I just didn't know what to write. What is my occupation?

What should I say when people ask what I do?

Am I a designer?

I design clothes.

I am inspired, by nearly everything I see, to create clothes.
I swoon over fabrics and trims.

I can't seem to hold a pen without sketching something that I want to create.

I love being at my sewing table and creating;

turning my visions into something real, concrete, lovely.

I love designing.

BUT...

I have no formal design training.

My sketches sorta look like my toddler drew them.

I am essentially self taught.

My studio is in my bedroom...

all of these reasons surely discredit my being a full fledged designer, right?

I *want* to be a designer.

I *think* I am a designer.

On her blog, Ashley wrote,

"I realized if I want to be a writer, then I need to own it"

It sounds so simple, but it is so scary!

I've been questioning myself for months now, and after reading Ashley's

post, I can't help wonder how many other

bloggers/writers/artists/designers are dealing with this too?

It's just so interesting to me.

I know in my heart that I have to just own it -

If I want to BE a designer, then I need to own it!

A Fabulous Pink and Orange 6th Birthday Outfit

I love my "job" :)
It is seriously fun to design and create fabulous outfits for sweet kids to wear;
especially when the outfits are for extra special occasions, like birthdays!
This sweet outfit is for sweet Miss Ella -

Ella is turning 6 and celebrating with a roller skating birthday party!

Her mom suggested the bright neon colors, but gave me complete
design control, telling me to "design whatever I would have my own girls wear"
Seriously - that is music to a designer's ears! ;)

Ruffle Shirt with Removable Glitter Birthday Badge

Orange Ruffle Skirt over a Prima Ballerina style tutu in Bubble Gum Pink

Sweet 5 inch, polka dot printed, pinwheel style hair bow.

I love that this outfit can be worn in multiple ways!
The badge can be removed, so the shirt is no longer a "birthday shirt"
just a cute ruffly shirt :)

The Shabby Chic Birthday Badge can be worn on it's own too!
Wouldn't it be sweet clipped to her jacket or backpack? I love it! :)

The fun ruffle skirt can be toned down and made "school appropriate"
just by eliminating the tutu layer.

I think this would be SO cute with a black top and fun leggings for Halloween!

The Prima Ballerina style tutu is adorable all on its own and is easily embellished
by clipping on the polka dot hair bow! SO sweet! :)

What a week! The Ruffle Bloomers Tutorial is rapidly becoming the most-viewed
tutorial I have ever written! {Sweet!} Rarely does my little blog receive so much

Ruffle Bloomers * Diaper Cover Tutorial

Miss V* will be rockin’ a new red, white and blue tutu this weekend and she was in need of a matching pair of modesty bloomers (aka diaper cover). Thankfully I had on hand a plain white cover and some festive fabric scraps so I was able to make her an adorable ruffle bloomer in less than 30 mins!

Here's how:

Supplies: Diaper Cover, Fabric, Sewing Supplies

1. Measure across the back of your cover. (My cover was 9 inches wide).

Double this measurement to determine the length of each fabric strip. (18)

2. Cut three strips of fabric that are double the width of your cover and

2 inches wide. (18in x 2in). Finish one long edge of each fabric strip.

{Note: For the cover shown here, I finished the edges of each long side using my serger. Alternatively you could finish the edges with a tight zigzag stitch or you could hem each piece with a very small hem. Another option for finishing the edges is to cut each strip 4 inches wide instead of 2, then with wrong sides facing, fold your fabric in half}

3. Ruffle ‘em up! ;)

Sew a gathering stitch along the entire unfinished side of each strip.

Gather each strip of fabric until it is the same width as the back of your cover.

4. Place and pin your first strip of ruffles across the back of your cover.

Be sure to tuck your ends under at the beginning and end of the strip.

(We're working from the bottom up, so look at the leg opening of your

cover and place your first strip just above this point).

Using a straight stitch, sew your ruffle strip onto the cover.

5. Place and pin your second strip of ruffles across the back of your cover,

this row should be positioned so the bottom edge of the ruffle sits around

the middle of the row beneath it. Sew your ruffle strip onto the cover.

6. Place/pin/sew your final strip of ruffles across the back of your cover,

be sure to tuck your ends under at the beginning and end of the strip for

a nice clean finish. Again, this row should be positioned so the bottom

edge of the ruffle sits around the middle of the row beneath it.

That it friends! Easy peasy and oh so adorable!

There are MANY options for personalizing your ruffle bloomers;

you could use ribbon, lace, eyelet, decorative trim, matching fabrics…

In any case, the directions are basically the same as above. :) If you make any bloomers using this tutorial I would LOVE it if you shared a picture! Pics can be uploaded to the Daydream Believer Shop Facebook Page.

*FYI* The diaper cover I am using for this project was pre-made, it came

with a store bought outfit of V*s. With two baby girls, we have lots of these

plain covers on hand. If you don’t have a spare of your own, no sweat!

You could purchase one inexpensively at any store (retail or thrift) that sells

baby girl clothes (a diaper cover comes with nearly every baby girl outfit) or

you could make your own. Here are two great tutorials teaching you how –

I love tutus :)
